Meet Mish-Mish Effendi, an animated character popular in Egypt and the Middle East in the 1930s and 40s, and the Frenkels, Jewish filmmaking brothers who invented him. Known as the “Egyptian Disneys,” the Frenkels’ fame collided with the 1948 War of Independence. The film is filled with clips of the animated films, the brothers’ motion-picture inventions, as well as family history.
