SO, WHAT’S FREEDOM? tells a story about how the lives and perspectives of a group of people drastically change when they are forced into exile. Told from a present day perspective, this story of love, survival and a thirst for freedom is inspired by true events, which took place in 1951 Romania, which had been recently subjugated by a totalitarian regime.
Romanian-born, US-based Andrei Zinca studied Film and TV Photography in Romania and earned a degree in Directing and Film Production at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Before he left Romania in 1982, he worked on eight feature films as a Camera Operator. In 1987, Zinca produced and directed ROSA DE AMERICA, a six-hour TV mini-series, in Peru, his country of adoption. In 1988, he moved to the U.S., where he established himself as a leading Director for the Hispanic U.S. and Latin American markets, with more than 1000 hours of fiction programming. In 1991, he directed and co-produced a special program about Pope John-Paul II and the Vatican, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Regional Award. In 2006, Zinca returned to Romania as a Line Producer for MIRRORS (2008), a New Regency production. He also directed LA URGENTA (2006) a local version of ER, for which he received the ‘Best TV Series Award’ by The Romanian Filmmakers Association and The Romanian TV Professionals Association. In 2011 he directed his first theatrical feature, PUZZLE FOR A BLIND MAN (2013), awarded for best movie, lead actors and script at international festivals in NYC and Buffalo. It was the closing night screening at SeeFest in 2014, where it won an award for ‘Best Photography’.
