Welcome to Banglatown – the area around London’s Brick Lane, famous for its many curry houses and graffiti, and the heart to the city’s Bangladeshi community. Meet Rush, a struggling actor and single dad trying to keep a roof over his son’s head. Facing eviction, Rush is forced to make a devil’s pact with the local gang.

Using his acting skills, Rush finds that a life of crime comes easier than expected. But when the police headed by the determined Detective Mirza start closing in, he’s faced with a choice: a life with his son or a life behind bars. Can Rush find a way out of his new criminal life?

Banglatown is the debut feature from writer-director-producer Dishad Husain who leads iMotion – a diverse collective of creatives in London which creates short films and music videos. It features a strong ensemble cast of upcoming performers including breakout comedians like Irish-Iranian Patrick Monahan, South-Asian Sajeela Kershi, and Somali comic Prince Abdi. Ifte Amed plays Rush in an energetic performance.

With Banglatown, Dishad Husain has forged a new ‘comedy with a cause’ genre, delivering big laughs while making us think about serious issues.
