A pre-adolescent boy uses the fictional character of Peer Gynt to deal with the world and his place in it. The layers of joy and sorrow, success and failure are "peeled" away to leave apparently nothing. However out of this confrontation with death and madness Peer finds solace in the love of Solveig, who patiently waits for him.


Peer Gynt is a film with children but not necessarily for children. Pre and post adolescent teens re-enact a faithful but imaginative rendering of Ibsen's classic play using Grieg's music as outlined by their correspondence. To call a play a classic signifies that it holds a universal message that remains pertinent. Peer Gynt after all his peregrinations returns to the woman he loves implying that love is more powerful than worldly ambition, material well being, fame....
