Thomas Imbach shot Nemesis on 35 mm film entirely from his window. Over a period of seven years, he documented the replacement of Zurich’s old freight station by a police station and a prison destined to house migrants facing deportation, resulting in a documentary with poignant layers of meaning. Fuelled by the director’s consternation, and accompanied by his personal chronicle juxtaposed with testimonies of rejected asylum seekers, Nemesis probes how we deal with the extinction of history and its replacement with total security.
