Festival co-chair Neal Schindler spoke with Reawakening director Alexandra Horowitz about what inspired her to make the 8-minute documentary short, and how she worked with Charlottesville's Congregation Beth Israel on the project.

Alexandra Kauffman Horowitz, a former senior producer at CNN International, spent nearly 10 years covering business and economics for CNN and its various networks from bureaus in New York, Washington, London, and Hong Kong. She now works independently as a writer, director, and producer of documentary shorts for nonprofits, often on subjects related to Judaism. She has produced films for the Jewish Museum of Maryland, the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington D.C., the Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society, and Washington D.C.’s Theatre Lab. Her writing has appeared in the Washington Post.
