Hooray for Harold Lloyd!
With Suzanne Lloyd
With his success-seeking positivity and easy-going charm, it feels like we need Harold Lloyd’s upbeat, everyman character more than ever in 2021!
Writer and broadcaster Matthew Sweet (Host of Radio 3’s Free Thinking) explores Harold Lloyd's life, work and legacy with Suzanne, in a live event illustrated by a selection of extracts from Harold’s career including a screening of OVER THE FENCE (1917), Lloyd’s first appearance as the ‘glasses character’, and HIGH & DIZZY (1920), his pioneering thrill picture. The highest-grossing of all the great silent clowns, surpassing even Chaplin in the 1920s, Lloyd made over 200 films and is best remembered for his classic thrill picture Safety Last (1923). The scene in which Harold ends up dangling from a clock has become an iconic cinematic image and is one that endures to this day including on social media where it's found a whole new audience.
A rare opportunity to hear Harold Lloyd’s granddaughter and president of Lloyd Entertainment discussing the life and work of her era-defining grandfather. We are sure that Suzanne’s unique perspective will provide fascinating insights into the world of Harold Lloyd, Join us for this ‘Slapstick Conversation’ with Suzanne Lloyd.
