Having inherited a bizarre sea-themed establishment from his late father, reluctant hotelier Dave (Tom Vermeir) goes through the motions of keeping the decaying flophouse running, even though it’s closed to guests. However, when a young woman comes begging for a room, he finds he cannot refuse her, and the hermetically sealed universe of Hotel Poseidon is soon invaded by a number of oddball characters, upsetting Dave’s equilibrium. Hailing from the world of theatre, with his first feature Belgian director Stef Lernous has given us a tour of a pocket universe of decay and entropy where the peeling walls of the Poseidon mirror our main character’s parlous mental state. Fans of Delicatessen should book a room immediately.
