When Rumi, a Muslim-American college student is scouted by a casting agent and invited to an open casting call, she comes face to face with a deeply problematic and troubling industry.

Rumi is a confident and talented 19-year-old with big dreams of becoming an actress. When it’s her turn to perform a dramatic monologue to her college theater class, she is met with roaring applause. That same morning, Rumi is scouted by a casting agent stationed outside her college campus. After their exchange, she agrees to go in for an open casting call for what seems like an exciting opportunity that could open doors for someone like her. What starts out as a thrilling venture into the world of fashion ends in embarrassment, confusion and deep hurt. Rumi is a story about the politics of the headscarf, tokenism, voyeurism, performance and perspective.
