With enthusiasm waning, the monthly meal/meeting of a group of long-time buddies/foodies is nearing its end. But when a mysterious chef arrives serving sumptuous meals, their love of food and friendship reignites – even as the members start turning up dead. The ingredients in this black comedy – part food flick, part thriller – make an impressive feature film debut for director Angelo Defanti. And with terrific performances and a unique style, The Club of Angels is a visually effervescent, wildly original and provocative adaptation of Brazilian author Luis Fernando Verissimo's best-selling 1998 novel of the same name.
