Riding with Sugar tells the story of Joshua, a young Zimbabwean refugee whose escape from the life of a child soldier lands him on the streets of South Africa’s Cape Town. A talented bike-rider, he dreams of winning a cycling championship as a way of out of poverty, when fate intervenes. He’s taken in by the dapper Mambo, who provides shelter, education and work for young refugees. With superb acting, beautiful cinematography and an incredible score, Gonera’s film is a window into the life of a young man on the verge of adulthood.
