For over a year the Dannenroeder Forest in Hessen, Germany was occupied by climate activists, who lived in treehouses up to 30 metres high to protect it from clearing for a new motorway.

From Oct 2020 the evacuation by the police and the cutting of the trees started.

Barricade follows the activists through their creative protests, their dreams, and their music as they ‘peacefully fight’ with police and SEK special forces to protect a sacred forest.

Above all, the emotionally stirring and visually powerful documentary also shows the motives and dreams of a young generation for whom civil disobedience is a legitimate means of drawing attention to climate change and demanding political consequences.
