Sara is a 13-year-old Polish Jew fleeing Nazi persecution who finds refuge as a servant for a Ukrainian farmer and his wife. The family is battered on all sides, as multiple occupiers take over their country. As Sara discovers the dark secrets of her employers' marriage, she must struggle to protect her greatest secret - that of her true identity.
