Tim, a young meteoroid, happily floats through outer space attached to his parents until they collide with another rock and are separated. Lost and lonely, Tim soon finds himself surrounded by an elite society of Stars, each assigned a child on Earth for whom to grant wishes. One little girl, Jane, has no Star to wish upon as she looks out of the window of her run-down bedroom.

Yearning for family, Tim attempts to fit in with the young Stars but is shunned from playing with them. He floats by the happy families, missing his parents and wishing for some place to belong.

As he grievously floats by the Moon, she notices his predicament and blows her moondust towards him, sending him flying towards Earth. Entering the atmosphere, Tim lights up as a Shooting Star, beaming with hundreds of wishes from the children excitedly watching on Earth.

Tim bounces to a halt on the pavement next to Jane’s shoe. She picks him up, squeezes him in her hand and wishes her hardest for the one wish she never got to make. When her eyes open, she sees the outstretched hand of a fatherly figure. She walks away from the Orphanage holding hands with her new parents.
