Synopsis
Emma used to be an outgoing and adventurous grandma. But ever since her husband died nine years ago Emma has increasingly isolated herself from others. When Landon, her outspoken and often times raunchy gay grandson stops by for a visit, he challenges her to start online dating. Stubbornly Emma resists, as a secret from her past still haunts her. Will Emma be able to confront and overcome a painful truth, or be doomed to a life of self imposed seclusion.
Director's Statement
I've always been inspired by films that connect with viewers emotionally. So while writing Sexy Grandma, I wanted to explore the character's relationships in a comedic yet dramatic way. We also often times see an older mentor showing a younger person how to grow and overcome a blind spot in their life. For this story I thought it would be interesting to flip that dynamic around, especially since there's an intergenerational gap between characters. Regarding themes I wanted to explore a number of ideas including grief, regret, mortality, resiliency, and forgiveness. The film was shot last year and the schedule moved at a brisk pace. Juggling all the preproduction, schedules, and other challenges with a limited budget is an all too common dilemma. This project was no exception, but with a small cast and crew everyone came together to pitch in, often times wearing multiple hats. I'm so appreciative of their many contributions, and I hope audiences enjoy the film.
