Synopsis

Director's Statement

The film The Velvet Kiss was inspired by noticing how timing plays a pivotal role in relationships, how easy it is to romanticize past relationships until we remember the reasons that they ended and recognize how we grow in different ways after relationships. The Velvet Kiss is about saying goodbye. I wrote the screenplay for The Velvet Kiss over 14 years ago then chose to direct it for my thesis film because I love dialogue-driven movies and the six-page, single-location, script enabled us to film it in eight hours with a small but mighty cast and crew. We filmed it in a restaurant/jazz bar owned by an old friend who I reconnected with after three decades while scouting locations for the film.
