Passionate about science, photography and oriental art, Roman Vishniac, born in Russia in the late 19th century, was a true polymath. But itis for his hugely important still and moving images of Jewish communities across Eastern Europe–taken a short while before their destruction by the Nazis–that he is best remembered. In this moving film, executive produced by Nancy Spielberg, Vishniac’s daughter Mara, who passed away in 2018, speaks openly about her bigger-than-life father –a self-aggrandizing figure with whom she had a thorny relationship, but also a remarkably talented person with endless interest in the world around him.
