When Women Won tells the remarkable inside story of the Together for Yes campaign to repeal the 8th amendment and change Irish society forever. In the aftermath of the tragic death of Savita Halappanavar, three Irish feminists joined forces and set about establishing a grassroots, women-led social movement. Working with teams in every county in Ireland, they ultimately delivered a landslide victory. Compelling and insightful, this documentary brings you back to the highs and lows of the tumultuous campaign, and captures the most seismic shift in Irish society in the past 35 years.
Biography:
Anna Rodgers is a multi IFTA award winning director with over twenty years of experience. Her short films and documentaries have garnered numerous awards and critical acclaim. In 2019 her short film Strong at the Broken Places won Best Short Documentary at Belfast Doc Fest. Her short film Hold on Tight screened at over 50 film festivals worldwide, was Highly Commended at Iris Prize, and won a Radharc award. Her short film Novena was also nominated for the Iris Prize and won a GALA for Best Film/ TV in 2014. In the same year Anna also won the IFTA for Best Director for her film Somebody to Love. Anna’s debut feature documentary Today is better than two tomorrows won Best Film at the Luang Prabang International Film festival and she was nominated for the Charles. Guggenheim Emerging Artist award at Full Frame. Anna has also directed numerous online short dramas, including Stand Up, a short story about homophobic bullying which has been viewed over 2 million times. Her current film When Women Won had its premiere at Virgin Dublin International Film Festival and won the Special Jury Prize at the Boston Irish Film Festival in 2020. Anna’s highly creative television documentaries have won multiple IFTAs, a Radharc award and also the Best Factual Series at the Celtic Media
