Session 14

  • OUR FLAG WILL NEVER BE RED (Brazil/Spain, 72 min)
  • MEETING GORBACHEV (Germany/Russia, 91 min)

Description:

Our Flag Will Never be Red shows an unprecedented history about lack of freedom of expression in Brazil. The documentary presents the struggle of independent journalists to break the blockade imposed by six families that dominate the country's information system. Brazil has "6 Berlusconis" that together dominate more than 90% of the national audience. According to those interviewed, the Berlusconis were responsible for one of the greatest journalistic frauds of all times: a massive cheat that destroyed people’s confidence in the traditional press and threw Brazil towards fascism. Our Flag Will Never be Red is the first time that a Brazilian film denounces the concentration of local media, considered by the United Nations as “the highest in the western world”. By examining the influence of the Brazilian media in the socio-political events that took place from 2013 to 2019, Our Flag Will Never be Red answers the question on everyone’s mind: who is Bolsonaro, and how did he become the president of the sixth most populous country in the world?
