In 2018, Stacey Abrams became the first Black woman to run for governor in a major party in the United States. After a close election in which Abrams lost by 50,000 votes, it was revealed that her opponent Brian Kemp put more than 53,000 voter registrations on hold prior to the election, most of them from minority voters. In this informative and engaging documentary, Abrams is joined by several scholars and legal experts as they trace the history of the right to vote, as well as investigate racist practices of voter suppression and how these barriers continue to disenfranchise predominantly non-white voters today. Discussion with director Lisa Cortes and VA Congressman Bobby Scott, moderated by Larry Sabato (UVA) to follow.
