“How are we willing to change to empower Black, Indigenous, and People Of Colour producers and creators of all genders, sexual identities, and disabilities in Canadian Film & TV?” That’s the premise of the Producers Pledge and other initiatives that seek to make media equitable. Anti-bias training, core funding, data collection, and making sure these conversations lead to concrete actions are essential next steps. Here’s a chance to discuss best practises for unpacking privilege and dismantling systemic barriers on-screen and behind the scenes and from different perspectives, to bring more context, nuance, and understanding to the work ahead.
