Wayne is a fun-loving, heavy-drinking small-town goof who never grew up. The problem is that he has a nine-year-old son, Tyler. He is about to lose him after a custody battle following which Tyler and his Mom are planning to relocate far away from Wisconsin. So, Wayne lies to his ex and takes off with his son for an adventure in the big city of Milwaukee, something they have been saying they will do for much of their lives. But, Wayne is ill equipped to handle the big city, and ends up passed out cold even before he and his son can find a motel room for the night. A friend intervenes and the runaway father-son team end up camping out at his sister Alicia’s place. There, an attempted comic intervention gives new meaning to the word family cares.

We have seen other films about perpetual adolescents who refuse to grow up, but this one has heart. Wayne’s love for his son is palpable through all the goofball hijinks, and the road to redemption is paved in the good intentions that only a loving but flawed father can have for his son. Director Niels Mueller is actually from Wisconsin, and is best known for his 2004 feature THE ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON with Sean Penn and Naomi Watts. Joining him as executive producer is Alexander Payne known for SIDEWAYS, NEBRASKA, ELECTION and THE DESCENDANTS.
