This film block brings together stories rooted in long-term relationships with place. Across cliffs, forests, rivers, glaciers, and remote ecosystems, these films follow people who return again and again to landscapes they know well, learning how those places are changing and what it means to remain in relationship with them.

Climbers organize to protect access to local rocks, scientists search for species shaped by fire and warming climates, communities restore rivers by removing long-standing barriers, and artists and researchers bear witness to disappearing ice and elusive wildlife. Together, these films consider long-term engagement with wild lands and the species that inhabit them as landscapes and ecosystems change.

When access to some of the favorite local climbing spots in Chittenden County were at risk of being lost, a group of Vermont climbers scrambled to find a solution. They had to overcome fears of bringing more people into a very close-knit scene, forge new relationships with landowners and state policy makers, and learn how to build a community that would

steward these cliffs for years to come. The result of their plan was a new non-profit called CRAG-VT, and it has grown beyond what they ever dreamed.
