His short film, The Dishwasher, which he co-directed, was awarded a Special Jury Mention at Tribeca 2019 and was then acquired by HBO Max. Also a skilled Cinematographer, he shot the Adult Swim series Hot Package. His commercial clients include Condé Nast Traveler, Netflix, FiveThirtyEight and Wieden+Kennedy. He was recently a guest speaker at the Asian American Arts Alliance Film &amp; Media Town Hall and is currently touring festivals with his new film, Daly City, which explores subject matter that recurs frequently within his work: food, exoticism and the immigrant experience.

ABOUT THE FILM:In the 1950s, the cosmopolitan society in Egypt was disrupted by the conflict between nationalists and colonial powers, affecting citizens and residents with foreign affiliations, including Europeans, Syro-Lebanese and Egyptian Jews. Amidst this turmoil, 8-year-old Nabil navigates through new social norms that he cannot comprehend, impacting his next-door best friend, Mireille, in post-nationalized Egypt. This story is inspired by real people and true events. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Amir is an Egyptian filmmaker based in San Francisco. He draws inspiration from the extremely rich culture of his native Egypt. In his latest work, Amir focuses on themes of alienation and identity during periods of social and political chaos, while delving into topics of duality, where opposing ideas and emotions coexist. His latest short film Dawn Every Day is currently on the festival circuit. It premiered at Galway Film Fleadh in Ireland and will be screening at BFI London Film Festival. Additionally he is an alumni of Slamdance Film Festival and Rhode Island International Film Festival.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Born in Tizi-Ouzou (Algeria), Lyna Tadount grew up in France and became a self taught passionate artist in many fields. She graduated at University Sorbonne’s Faculty of Letters where she studied French-English Literature and specialized in Journalism. Currently, she is a Director and Screenwriter based in Paris.&nbsp; Born in Perpignan (France), Sofian Chouaib is a director, writer and editor, based in Paris. He debuted as a content creator on YouTube as a hobby, then Sofian decided to pursue his education in the Cinema field at University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne where he graduated in 2021.

ABOUT THE FILM:After learning that his son, Yahya, has died at sea trying to get to Spain, Ahmed Tchiche must find a way to bring his remains back home to Morocco so he and his family can have a proper goodbye. A Spanish mortician, an NGO worker, and an established Moroccan immigrant living in Spain all struggle to help Ahmed get his son's body home. Through interweaving threads, Until He's Back explores the dangerous journey – crossing the Gibraltar Strait from Africa to Spain – and the difficulty of returning the bodies of those who drown at sea. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Jacqueline Baylon is a Mexican filmmaker whose work explores themes of immigration, migration, and civil rights abuses – subjects that resonate deeply in today's socio-political climate. Her nuanced approach to these issues not only sheds light on important stories but also humanizes them, creating an emotional connection with audiences. She has worked for media organizations across the United States, including The New York Times.

ABOUT THE FILM:And Still, It Remains is a meditation on the afterlife of French nuclear toxicity in Algeria through a community shaped but not circumscribed by its history. In Mertoutek, a village nestled in the Hoggar Mountains of Algeria’s Southern Sahara, we spend time with the Escamaran community as they narrate their accounts and understanding of time, toxic colonialism and how to survive the end of your world. Summoning the landscape as a witness, the film also affords the residents some distance from colonial forms of visual capture and challenges visibility as the currency for political redress. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Arwa Aburawa and Turab Shah are a directing duo dedicated to exploring race, migration, the environment and other ongoing legacies of colonialism through film. Together they also co-founded Other Cinemas, a project dedicated to supporting Black and non-white communities in London through free film screenings and a free, year-long film school.
