Synopsis: Nice Girl Jenny Heitz (Stephanie Hsu, THE MARVELOUS MRS.MAISEL) is an aspiring journalist, relegated to penning celebrity tabloid stories while dreaming of her first big investigative break. But when an anonymous Internet stalker develops a sinister obsession with her work, she finds herself at the center of a story that no one seems willing to hear. After a cop dismisses her plea for help, Jenny and her hacker roommate seek their own brand of justice. Predator becomes prey in this cathartic and irreverent feminist comedy/thriller. Director Amanda Lundquist and co-director Becky Scott deftly juggle the potentially conflicting genres, with the screenplay by Scott providing a deliciously deadpan absurdity that offsets the mounting tension. Including the always-hilarious Janeane Garofalo as Jenny’s boss, ASKING FOR IT is a genuine subversive delight – but also a cautionary tale about the cyber age we live in.
Director's Bio: Amanda Lundquist directs character-driven dark comedies. ASKING FOR IT It is her second feature. Her first, PINSKY, is about a queer slacker who returns home to her estranged Russian family after her grandfather dies. It won “Best Narrative Feature” at the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival and was released in 2019 through Breaking Glass Pictures. She lives in Brooklyn and is a member of Film Fatales. When she's not directing, she's training to become certified as an intimacy coordinator.
Becky Scott is a writer based in Brooklyn. ASKING FOR IT is her first feature script and her first foray into directing. Prior to writing ASKING FOR IT, she worked as a journalist covering pop culture. She is currently a writing fellow at the WGA/Filmnation inaugural screenwriting program and is represented by John Zaozirny of Bellevue Productions and Danny Toth of Gersh.
