A young teacher in an impoverished part of Tehran falls in love with his student's elder sister, and directs all his energy into helping the students put on a stage show. It is moving, witty and brilliantly directed in a dazzling and unusual combination of neorealism and political symbolism. After the revolution, much of Beyzaie’s work was banned. Downpour was inaccessible for decades, until being restored by Martin Scorsese's World Cinema Foundation. It's miracle that it still exists!

'Defined by a brash stylistic exuberance and a vivid way of looking at everyday life, . . this . . . helped usher in the Iranian New Wave.' - Criterion

Mae athro ifanc mewn rhan dlawd o Tehran yn syrthio mewn cariad â chwaer hynaf ei fyfyriwr, ac yn cyfeirio ei holl egni i helpu'r myfyrwyr gynnal sioe lwyfan. Mae'n deimladwy, yn ffraeth ac wedi'i chyfeirio'n wych mewn cyfuniad disglair ac anghyffredin o neo-realaeth a symbolaeth wleidyddol. Ar ôl y chwyldro, gwaharddwyd llawer o waith Beyzaie. Roedd y ffilm Downpour y tu hwnt i bob defnydd am ddegawdau, nes iddi gael ei hadfer gan Sefydliad Sinema'r Byd Martin Scorsese. Mae'n wyrth ei bod yn dal i fodoli!
