Popular cinema in 1960s and ‘70s Iran was shoddy, joyful and vibrant, a cinema of song and dance, sex and seduction, violence and vengeance. Happily remaking Hollywood hits with a Persian flavour, Filmfarsi reflected both traditional roles and a rapidly modernising society. After the Islamic Revolution of 1979 it was blacklisted and cinemas closed. Khoshbakht pieces together what remains from illegal VHS tapes that reveal much about the forces that shaped modern Iran.

'a deep dive into pre-revolutionary Iranian cinema' - Dirty Movies

Roedd sinema boblogaidd yn Iran yn y 1960au a ‘70au yn flêr, yn llawen ac yn fywiog, yn sinema o gân a dawns, rhyw a hudo, trais a dial. Gan ailwampio ffilmiau mawr Hollywood gyda blas Persiaidd, roedd Filmfarsi yn adlewyrchu rolau traddodiadol a chymdeithas sy'n moderneiddio'n gyflym. Ar ôl y Chwyldro Islamaidd ym 1979 cafodd ei wahardd a chaeodd sinemâu. Mae Khoshbakht yn cyfuno'r hyn sy'n weddill o dapiau VHS anghyfreithlon sy'n datgelu llawer am y grymoedd a luniodd Iran fodern.
