One Never Kills for Love/The Octo Connection: Life and Love: Oaki the Octopus/Seeds of Life~~~~~

They meet in the dark of night: a feminist group gathering to paste messages on walls of Montreal. Their goal: to end the murder of women and all systemic violence against women and minorities. The bold, maybe illegal activity (the use of wheat paste insures that no buildings are permanently defaced), is documented by Manon Testud, a young filmmaker who takes on a serious topic with assuredness.

This film chronicles one woman's extended interactions with one octopus. But fair warning: if you want to be able to keep eating calamari, don't watch this film-- at least one Big Water committee member has sworn off the stuff after viewing the film. While the film raises questions about the appropriate way for people to interact with wild animals, the intelligence of the octopus and the empathy we feel for it are brought home unmistakably and unavoidably, in a way that a more objective documentary might have missed.

A diver connects with a wild octopus in a way that is deep and meaningful to her, and that showcases the octopus's intelligence and calls forth empathy from us.

A Brazilian nun leads development efforts in the borderlands between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Her ability to share her extensive education, her 25-year commitment to the people, and her skills in organizing the people of the area and gathering support outside it (including in Green Bay), have created real, sustainable change in the region.
