This film is based on the true story of a professional wrestler and Iranian national hero who joins with the people to protest the government. So many of the Iranian films we have shown look closely at family dynamics within the society. This one-- not coincidentally shot outside Iran, in Turkey- looks at Iranian politics head-on. Watch this with the next film in this block, Bint el Shalabiyah, for two very different takes on resistance.

A Good Day Will Come

A professional wrestler takes on his strongest opponent, the government of Iran.

Resistance takes many forms. The protagonist in this film, a young Kurdish woman caught in the Iran-Iraq war, insists on asserting her independence from the conservative strictures of her family despite the dangers.

In this comedy short, a case of mistaken identity lands our heroine with the mob. Big Water is pleased to have Pat ("Tin Can") back at the Festival. This may be our first film ever in Italian (with English subtitles)!

Ms. Rossi Meets the Mob

Ms. Rossi finds herself in an unexpected situation.

The Damn was a 24 hour, 240 mile bike race across the breadth of Minnesota, from South Dakota to Wisconsin- except for those who elected to double the mileage and bike back again to South Dakota. This film documents the final running of the race and the collection of characters from near and far- including one couple who chose to do the race on a tandem bike-- who found the challenge of biking through the night over gravel roads just the ticket.
