This is a first-of-its-kind Musical Video that introduces Kumbara - The Night Frog (discovered in 2014). The word Kumbara means a “Potter’ in Kannada. The scientific name is Nyctibatrachus Kumbara.
This musical video dives into the spectacular macro world of Kumbara, which is going to be emotional, connective, and unbelievable to realise that all of this is happening in a small stream, which usually goes unnoticeable.
The Kumbara frog, endemic to the swampy forests of the Indian Western Ghats, has unique parental instincts. While reproducing, the female performs a handstand with the male mounted on her back and starts to lay eggs. Then the mother retreats into the stream leaving the eggs and male frog alone.
Astonishingly, to protect the eggs from the freshwater crabs and other predators. The caring father (male Kumbara) moves closer to the egg clutch and plasters them with mud taken from the stream below. and covers them so cleverly and meticulously that one cannot distinguish the clutch of eggs from surrounding muddy debris.
So this is the only frog species in the world to do so. And being filmed for the first time ever.
