Cornell Lab of Ornithology in association with the Ricketts Conservation Foundation Whitebark pines trees are icons of North America's mountain landscape. They are considered both a foundational and keystone species for the critical role they play in the ecosystems where they occur. They stand at the center of a web of life that supports dozens of plants and animals, including the threatened Grizzly bear, the red squirrel, and Clark’s Nutcracker. Over the past several decades the whitebark pine has experienced severe declines and today faces the very real threat of extinction. Hear directly from leading voices of the USDA Forest Service, American Forests, the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, the Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service, the Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation, and the Ricketts Conservation Foundation about what is at stake and why there is still time to save whitebark pine.

The visit is set amidst the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, a moment in history the world needed to listen to them, as ‘guardians of the forests’, but instead left them feeling ignored and sidelined. The film focuses on the importance of indigenous wisdom to reconnect to these habitats before it’s too late.

Wild Elements Studios Here, they’re called titís—squirrel-sized monkeys that live nowhere else in the world than this corner of Colombia. But architect Rosamira Guillen had never even heard of cotton-top tamarins until she began designing a zoo, even though she grew up right where they live. Soon, Rosamira changed careers and began working full time to protect them. Now, she supports community efforts to care for the forest, helping women earn income without depleting its resources, teaching children not to take titís as pets, and hiring men to restore thousands of trees instead of chopping them down.
