Ts'ikayo and Duduk’we is a short film sponsored by Sony G Master lenses. It is a cinematic retelling of one of the Hadzabe people's oldest origin stories, showing how the first Hadza, Ts'ikayo came to find her lover Tl'ikiliko after running away from the mythic elephant-looking beast Dudk'we. The film illuminates why the Hadzabe people's relationship with elephants is forever marked by ancient fear and reverence.
Drawn from the oral traditions passed down for generations around Hadza fires, the story was co-written with Mkalama, a Hadza storyteller, who stars in the film as the protagonist.
Filmed in close collaboration with the community, this short film is an invitation into the Hadza mythosphere. Using Sony’s G Master lenses to capture the textures of the land and the spirit of the story, the film offers a poetic glimpse into a culture that has shaped humanity’s roots for over 50,000 years.
