Panelists: Dr. Samir Sinha, Representative, Dying with Dignity (TBC)

Dr. Samir Sinha is the Director of Geriatrics at Sinai Health System and the University Health Network in Toronto and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Director of Health Policy Research at Ryerson University’s National Institute on Ageing.


A Rhodes Scholar, Dr. Sinha is a highly regarded clinician and international expert in the care of older adults. He is the Architect of the Government of Ontario’s Seniors Strategy and in 2014, Maclean’s proclaimed him to be one of Canada’s 50 most influential people and its most compelling voice for the elderly. Dr. Sinha is a member of the Government of Canada’s National Seniors Council, and is also currently leading the development of new National Long-Term Care Standards for Canada.


Beyond Canada, Dr. Sinha is a Fellow of the American Geriatrics Society and a member of the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council. Dr. Sinha has further consulted and advised hospitals and health authorities in Britain, China, Iceland, Singapore, St. Kitts and Nevis, Taiwan and the United States on the implementation and administration of unique, integrated and innovative models of geriatric care that reduce disease burden, improve access and capacity and ultimately promote health.



Dr. Sara Diamond, C.M. (Order of Canada), Order of Ontario, ICD.D, President Emerita OCAD University has led institutional transformation within arts, digital media/ICT, government and post-secondary institutions for over three decades. Diamond was President and Vice-Chancellor of OCAD University between 2005 – 2020 and before that was founding Director of the Banff New Media Institute. Diamond began her career as a media artist and was honored with a retrospective at the National Gallery of Canada. As an artist, designer, computer scientist and historian, she brings a deep interest in the relationships of human practices, cultures, and technologies. As director of OCAD U’s Visual Analytics Lab she continues funded research in data visualization applied to urban, transportation and cultural analytics, wellness and wearable technologies. 


Diamond led an early research network in creative applications of IoT and another in mobile networks. Her current scholarship includes the critical adoption of AI tools such as generative design as co-PI of the iCity2.0 project. Diamond publishes in peer-reviewed venues, provides book chapters and co-authors books and reports on media history and policy. She has supervised thirteen postdoctoral fellows since 2009. 


She co-chairs ArtworxTO, Year of Public Art and is chair of the Toronto Arts Foundation and the Baycrest Academy for Research and Education, having served on the Baycrest board for eight years.


Bev Heim-Myers is the Chair of Dying with Dignity, a Canadian charity committed to improving quality of dying, protecting end-of-life rights, and helping people across Canada avoid unwanted suffering.


In 2016 Bev received the American Society of Human Genetics, Advocacy Award, together with Senator James Cowan
