Conversation : Seeing is Believing - How do we visualise the climate future?

Even in the "best case scenario" of climate predictions, we have no guarantee of what the world will look like in the coming decades. It is important then, to visualize these likely futures. What happens if our efforts towards mitigating climate change are in vain? In this conversation, two filmmakers from our official selection discuss why they chose animation as the medium to depict the climate future. They will be joined by an environmental activist and artist who is working on grassroots solutions. The discussion will be about the importance and relevance of using art and the visual medium to show us that without change, our future looks grim. 

Panel : A Snapshot of Sustainable Tourism in India

Is sustainable tourism an upper class problem? Is it even a relevant topic while we are in the middle of a pandemic? How does this even tie into a film festival? Get ready for some real talk with our panel of zealous individuals who champion responsible travel through their everyday work. From the Sahyadri to Nagaland, meet those wanting to make a difference in the way visitors experience local people, culture and nature - and how to genuinely respect the places that are holiday destinations to some, and home to others.

Panel : Teeth, tails and tentacles : Wildlife Filmmaking and Photography

When we hear wildlife filmmaking and photography many of us think of National Geographic, Discovery Channel or Earth Matters. It sounds like a dream job to travel far and wide, track magnificent animals, capture their lives on film and see the results make audiences react with wonder. We want to hear from those behind the camera, what else wildlife filmmaking and photography entails and why these professions remain so important. Industry experts and representatives from films showing at ALT EFF 2020 will dig out some tips and tricks about their craft, so get ready for a roaring session!

Panel: Investigative Journalism - What does it take?

Being an investigative journalist might sound like thrill and intrigue sustain one’s thirst for astonishing adventures with a side of glory. Our panelists, two of whom are premiering their films for the first time in India at ALT EFF 2020, will discuss what it means to pursue their passion projects. How much time is spent on intensive research and fact-finding? What is the personal sacrifice? What does it really take to be an investigative journalist, especially in the environmental space?

Panel: Wildlife-Human Conflict - Whose backyard? 

In this panel, we will explore what is meant by human-wildlife conflict, and how the factors that create such conflict are caused by multiple anthropogenic pressures which are not always easy for conservationists to isolate and “solve”. Our panel of filmmaker, ecologist, and conservationists will discuss how film can bring the complexities of human-wildlife conflict closer home as well as the dissonance between mainstream “charismatic” narratives and the reality on the ground...

Workshop : Trash Talk with Bare Necessities

There’s a time and place for your trash talk, and this is it! Join this workshop with our cherished partners Bare Necessities to not only explore the waste problems we are facing in our own backyards but also discuss hands-on DIY solutions. 

Workshop : What a shame! - The Art of Storytelling with Monika Naranjo Gonzalez

In this workshop, we will explore what are some of the building blocks that need to be present in order to design a compelling story. We will discuss what storytelling really is, and why it's important for us as storytellers to decode its secrets. 

Workshop: Nature, Camera, Action - The Mini Filmmaking Masterclass

This unique workshop is for all budding environmental filmmakers and those wanting to know more about what goes on behind the lens while Tigers, Elephants & Co are posing in front of it. Expand your toolkit with tips and tricks from our all-star ambassadors Pooja Gupta, science communicator and multimedia artist, and Gunjan Menon, independent natural history filmmaker and writer.
