In Vanishing Grasslands, Chhering Angdui, a 43-year-old herder and farmer from Langza village in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul-Spiti district, shares the harsh realities of climate change affecting his community. Once covered in snow with ample grasslands, the Spiti region now faces diminishing snowfall and rainfall, resulting in less grass for livestock. Chhering and fellow herders must travel farther to find grazing land for their cattle, sheep, and goats. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of high-altitude valleys and clear night skies, this film highlights the growing threat to traditional livelihoods in Spiti. As grasslands disappear, Chhering worries about the future of the village's livestock, fearing their extinction. The film offers a poignant glimpse into the challenges faced by the Bhot community, whose connection to their land and animals is increasingly jeopardised by climate change.
