Oscar Wilde's quote "the truth is rarely pure and never simple" kicks off this elusive documentary thriller about an American family that becomes entangled in a bizarre web of secrets and lies when their hacker son is targeted by the U.S. government, forcing them to seek asylum in Canada. In her film dealing with the elusive nature of truth, director Sonia Kennebeck blurs the lines of documentary and narrative filmmaking by staging monologues, recreating scenes, and having actors lip-synch to the actual recorded audio of their asylum hearing in Canada.
