The power of Animation to tell every kind of story is on full display in this amazing block of new short films.

Paint on glass with monotype animation. The images are captured with Dragonframe stop motion software and composited together in Adobe After Effects. This piece is part of my research into the tension between hand made and digital animation. Made with support from Pratt Institute's Provost Research Fund.

In The Mountains

A poem that explores girlhood through the lens of poverty and alienation in the American South. "The Animal" is a short film collaboration between Poet, Erin Carlyle, and artist, Nora 6592. Based on the poem of the same name, The Animal explores poverty and alienation. The title character is a little girl whose gender, place of birth, and socioeconomic status determine her life trajectory. This collaboration couples the poem’s original themes with 6592's own dedication to animal rights and welfare. Drawing a direct connection between human suffering and animal abuse, the film makes a bold statement: we are all animals, and we all deserve safety, security, and respect.

Social Distancing is a video piece, visualizing the data of the Covid 19 pandemic, and the audio is also converted from the numerical values of the data. It explores new ways of communicating with the audience by presenting the data in a different perspective.

Universal Frequencies

Chiaroscuro is an immersive sound and video installation that follows an anonymous glowing figure as they traverse an empty, black and unknown plane. They move through a series of events, from witnessing strange shadows dancing across the void, to an exchange of fruit with a mystical body of water. The character's quest does not reach a point of fulfillment. Caught in an endless cycle, they find themselves with an empty bucket and nothing gained. Chiaroscuro investigates the relationship between the mind and the unknown.

Exploring the director’s father’s chronic health problems, as a diabetic with kidney failure, and his mother’s role as his eternal caretaker, Chilly and Milly is a combination of 3D-modeled/composited characters, with cinéma vérité scenes from an autobiographical documentary shot over 13 years ago.An Official Selection of the 2022 Sundance Film Festival!

MA1NFRAME is the story of an artificial intelligence created to bring us together as a planet after so many millennia of divisiveness. Based on their programming their decision is to empower us with our weaknesses, instead of limiting us by our laws. However, as their story continues, and they describe our human experience in their quirky data-driven fashion, they start to realize that they are an outlier to our system. They have no rights, no recognition. To us, they are only a ghost. They start to fracture under the weight of the dual responsibilities of determining where their identity lies, and protecting their human creators from themselves. Ultimately, through a glitch, they reveal to the listener their final message, before the plug is pulled and they go dark forever.

MA1NFRAME

The story is about the Danish painter Jens Juel, who through his travels and inspiration from the old masters (Rembrandt) gains a unique inspiration and expertise. This is shown in the light/ colors he gathers on his travels and a special light/ glow that emerges from his brush.
