FILM SYNOPSIS:
In the Ilisiu village of Dargeçit, Mardin, by the Tigris River, the villagers discovered beads from ancient times - made of stone - in the fields. During the excavations, a 4,000-year-old life from 13,000 years ago was discovered in that area covering three hectares.
Boncuklu Tarla is an archaeological site in the Southeastern Anatolia of Turkey. It is the remains of a settlement occupied from the Late Epipaleolithic to Pre-Pottery Neolithic B periods. It was discovered in 2008 during an archaeological survey in advance of the construction of the Ilısu Dam and has been excavated by a team from Mardin Museum since 2012.
The discovery of a large communal building with stone pillars was reported at Boncuklu Tarla in 2019, prompting comparisons to Göbekli Tepe. It is an early example of rectangular plan architecture. The excavators also claimed to have found a sewer system, which if confirmed would be the oldest known in the world.
TRACES which centers on Boncuklu Tarla, seeks life and people in the light of the findings. This movie, in docudrama format, plumbs the depths of the human spirit in every archaeological find.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:
Ahmet Kiliç, who has been in the movie industry since 2015, first worked as a screenwriter in the industry after stydying cinema for two years at the Yazi Odasi Compani.
In 2020, after founding Iz Yapim he wrote and directed various sneak peaks. Afterwards, he shot his first documentary, TRACES “Boncuklu Tarla.
