SYNOPSIS

In the 80s, a man named Wayne Powars stumbled upon the oldest known mine in the Americas.

Some of the first people on this continent were mining for sacred red ochre 10,000 - 15,000 years ago in eastern Wyoming.

The archeology site was almost destroyed by modern iron mines, but is now helping archaeologists learn more about the first humans in North America.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Born and raised in southwest Colorado, Keenan DesPlanques grew up wandering through the LaPlata and San Juan mountains. Once he graduated high school, DesPlanques made the move to British Columbia to find his place in the filmmaking industry, and that is where he currently calls home.

Ochre Sunrise was a 7 year long project learning about the Powars II site.
