Come on over – it's time to connect as people again. Greeting neighbors and meeting strangers, human connection is a beautiful thing.
Love is patient. Love is kind. But if you’re in a hurry, call Lennys Negron! He’s been riding New York’s subway for 20 years in a quest to help couples of all creeds and none exchange their vows. This bittersweet documentary captures a day in Lennys’ life, following him as he travels to and from weddings, serving a spectrum of couples and sharing his wit and wisdom on life and love. Till death do them part.
MEET THE FILMMAKERS: HÕBE ILUS & MIHKEL OKSMANN
Hõbe Ilus is a documentary filmmaker and visual storyteller from Estonia. After achieving a BA in Literature and Theatre Studies, she decided to travel and live abroad. This decision guided her to many odd jobs and cross-cultural experiences. Having experienced life from unfamiliar angles, she learned that she can never escape her roots nor the urge to create. Her interest lies in human nature. Her film language is poetic, often minimalistic, yet rich in detail. In 2018 she graduated with a Documentary Master’s from the Baltic Film and Media School at Tallinn University, and is an alumna of Masterclass Interdoc (2017, Serbia). In 2019-20, she was a participant of the documentary program at UnionDocs Collaborative Studio in Brooklyn, New York. Currently working with co-director Mihkel Oksman on a film project about the little-known sport of ice sailing.
Mihkel Oksmann is an Estonian documentary filmmaker, who comes from a family of sailors. His passion for documentary flowered during Bachelor's studies in Fine Arts at the Estonian Academy of Arts. He graduated from the Documentary Master’s program at the Baltic Film and Media School in 2018. His thesis film 'A-Well Kept Secret' was awarded the Best Central and Eastern Europe Student Film at Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival (2018). His films have addressed socially sensitive issues, such as the impact of urbanization on the countryside. His artistic style is a combination of Baltic minimalism, a touch of black humour and good-natured warmth towards his film subjects. In 2019, he was granted a stipend from the Baltic-American Freedom Foundation for a 11-month full-time internship in New York. In 2019-20 he was interned at a Brooklyn-based Emmy-award winning documentary film production company, Flatbush Pictures. Currently working with co-director Hõbe Ilus on a film project about the little-known sport of ice sailing.
