MEET THE FILMMAKER: MENGYUAN (CHERRY) GUO

Mengyuan Guo, nicknamed “Cherry”, graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design at the age of 22. Growing up in Beijing, China, Cherry has always been the most interested in animated films and TV shows regardless western or eastern. Besides eating hotpot and playing ludo, Cherry has spent all her free time on drawing comics and watching animated shows. Starting the study abroad experience at Idyllwild Arts Academy, California, majoring in Visual Arts has helped tremendously opening up her perspective and building a wide range of basic art skills. To crave for animation education drove Cherry to discover and eventually choose Ringling. Through the years spent at Ringling, she has learned the significant advantage of a wide-range skill set, knowledge about all production stages, and how that greatly improves productivity when working in the industry with others. The future may be full of uncertainty, but Ringling has prepared her a tough mind to face anything.


MEET THE FILMMAKER: NAICHENG LIU

Naicheng Liu graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2020 majoring in Computer animation. He is from Fuzhou, Fujian, China. He studied the Animation School of Beijing Film Academy to pursue his dream before he came to Ringling. The reason why he chose Ringling is that he was impressed by tons of amazing animated short films made by Ringling students. And during 4 years of Ringling education, Naicheng’s passion and creativity were further stimulated by professional training. He has finished his thesis film “Tricked” with two talented teammates and continues his passion as a character designer. He hopes the magic of animation can always inspire the audience just like how it did in his childhood.


MEET THE FILMMAKER: SUHN YOUNG CHUNG

Suhn Young Chung graduated in Computer animation at the Ringling College of Art and Design. She received a diploma in traditional animation from Vancouver Film School, Canada. She grew up in a large family in Seoul, South Korea. As a child, she was interested in storytelling through drawing. When she was nine and watched the movie A.I., she dreamt of becoming a filmmaker. After watching the stop-motion animated film Coraline, she realized she wanted to replicate that stylized look in 3D animation. She wanted to tell stories with a unique visual style. She interned at Pixar during the summer of her Junior year. She had a chance to learn about the animation industry and pipeline of Pixar's animated feature films. She is currently in her senior year finishing up her thesis work. She will continue her career as a 3D character artist and prepare for her future film.
