The Leap Beneath

Homes for Hornbills

In the late 1980s, after restoring a previously derelict cattle farm in South Africa into a wildlife reserve, brothers Dave and John Varty saw something rare-a wild leopard. At the time, leopards were almost impossible to find. This female, later named the Mother Leopard, changed everything. Over her lifetime, she raised nine litters, and her trust in humans paved the way for generations of leopards that would do the same. Her legacy turned Londolozi into one of the best places in the world to observe wild leopards. Today, it has one of the highest leopard densities in Africa, and decades of close observation have created an unrivaled understanding of these elusive cats. This film explores the deep bond between the people and the leopards of Londolozi—a relationship built on patience, trust, and decades of quiet observation.
