Vera is a middle-aged sign language interpreter, as well as a wife to a renowned judge, a supportive mother, and a caring grandmother. When her husband unexpectedly commits suicide, an unwelcome parade of relatives come calling, claiming to have ownership of the family’s village home and pressuring her to give it up in increasingly menacing ways. An intimate yet universal portrait of the power imbalances in a culture in which patrilineal inheritance is the norm. Premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
