SAMUEL HERBERT BOARDMAN, FATHER OF OREGON STATE PARKS, celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department (in 2021) by recognizing the life and work of Samuel H. Boardman, the first Oregon State Park Superintendent. Boardman, an early conservationist, founded more than 100 parks during his 21-year career. The documentary chronicles the history and personality of this early leader, who secured one of the greatest park systems in the country. The film pairs Boardman’s words with historical images and current footage from a collection of the parks around the state.

Director's Bio:

Kevin Clark is a filmmaker based in Florence, Oregon. After graduating from the University of Oregon with a degree in geography, he worked for Northwest newspapers as a photojournalist, videographer, photo editor and page designer. An encounter with wild horses on Steens Mountain led to his first full-length documentary, FROM THE WILD, THE JOURNEY OF THE MUSTANG. This chronicled the path of mustangs as they were captured, trained and sold throughout Oregon. The movie was accepted to the Friday Harbor Film Festival in 2018. His latest project, SAMUEL H. BOARDMAN, THE FATHER OF OREGON STATE PARKS, took 18 months to complete. The time included archival research into the writings of Samuel H. Boardman, and traveling around the state to capture the beauty of places Boardman acquired for state parks.
