Marda Stoliar helps people change their lives by teaching them to bake from her tiny school in Bend, Oregon. This documentary film, Marda's Gift, shows the ripple effect one woman’s work can have on a person, a family, a town. The film focuses on one student, Ezdan Fluckiger, an ER doctor with a passion for baking, and his daughter, Eleanor, who has Down syndrome.


Director's Bio:

Kate McMahon is an award-winning producer, writer and director of documentary films, news, podcasts, print and digital stories. She has contributed to more than 50 hours of national documentary and long-format news programming, primarily for PBS. Kate has also produced and reported public radio programs and has written for Metro Parent Magazine. 

Recently, Kate won a regional Emmy for directing, producing and writing OPB’s documentary series, Class of 2025.

Kate is a panelist for journalism and documentary conferences, a mentor to aspiring journalism professionals, and is a former member of the Women in Film-Portland board of directors.
