STARLESS DREAMS, directed by Mehrdad Oskouei, 2016, Iran, 76 min

It turns out that George Floyd's murder and the killing of a young girl in Iran have a lot in common...

A stark testimonial of the previously unseen and unheard, this documentary takes place inside a correctional center on the outskirts of Tehran and reveals the systemic injustice towards women and young girls in the Islamic Republic.

It took 7 years for Mehrdad Oskouei to get permission to make the film, but now he is facing a prison term himself for having done so. Were it not for his brilliant and compassionate interviews of these young girls -- all 18 years of age and younger -- the reality of their lives would be kept secret.
