This 1989 instant classic explored the "conspiracy of goodness"&nbsp;that took place in and around Le Chambon-Sur-Lignon—a Protestant stronghold in Catholic France—where some 5,000 Jews&nbsp;were&nbsp;sheltered during Nazi occupation by some 5,000 Christians.&nbsp;Pierre himself was born here in 1944 but grew up in New York, where his parents put the past behind them.&nbsp;As an adult filmmaker, he returned to pay tribute to the remarkable life-saving mountain village by creating this award-winning memoir, initiating a life-long dedication to Holocaust education and memorialization.
