Partners Anja (Hovig) and Tomas (Skarsgård) live together with a large blended family of biological children and stepchildren. For a number of years the two have grown apart emotionally, content with their creative jobs in parallel worlds. When Anja receives a terminal cancer diagnosis, however, the neglected emotions at the heart of their relationship are exposed. Feeling isolated with her grief and fears, Anja realizes that she needs Tomas’ full help and support. It’s their only chance. How will their children find the strength to cope once she is gone, if the parents are unable to weather the storm together? Anja and Tomas are thrown into a crash course in mutual trust and, eventually, a joint struggle to deal with her unexpected and premature death. By getting to know each other anew before the end, they unconsciously become principal characters in a love story, finally learning to truly love each other after a long life spent together.

This acting tour-de-force from Hovig, who is relatively unknown in the U.S., and the internationally renowned Skarsgård was shortlisted for Best International Feature for this year’s Oscars. Though it didn’t make the final cut, it remains a finely wrought work of emotional beauty and a love story like few others.
