Tony Drees believes he has “good fortune,” despite being born into an abusive household, surviving the deadliest bombing of the Gulf War, beating cancer, and having his leg amputated up to his hip. Through it all, he develops a newly found passion for skiing, and sets an ambitious goal for the upcoming season.

In a rural area of Balochistan, on the border of Iran and Pakistan, women can only sing in private rituals. Fariba, a teenage girl from this region, wants to sing in public like her brother. Can she overcome the gender and racial discrimination that prevents her from achieving her dreams?

Mariana Mendoza and Miguel Casar are Los Angeles-based climbers who take on some tough bouldering routes. They also see the power their sport has to create a community of care mobilized against war, the carceral system, and in support of justice. The two ask themselves how they can show up as whole people in both spaces, and then must reevaluate when their immigration status changes. The film shows that erecting barriers and breaking them down are both WHAT THE HANDS DO.
