Meet Me at the Creek (ᏗᏂᏠᎯ ᎤᏪᏯ)
Rebecca Jim moved to her home on the banks of Tar Creek just before it turned orange. The Cherokee Nation citizen and Waterkeeper Warrior is leading efforts to restore the contaminated creek, which she sees as an “opportunity to walk backwards in time.” Using familiar scenes of romance and family in the foreground of kaleidoscopic waterscapes, ᏗᏂᏠᎯ ᎤᏪᏯ (MEET ME AT THE CREEK) considers the liminal space between our origin stories and our new ones.

Tiny
“Tiny” was one of Colleen Hemphill’s many childhood nicknames while growing up on a float-house in the wild and unpredictable waters of the Pacific Northwest. The film TINY uses stop motion to reenact moments of Colleen’s life in miniature–via clay, micro knit sweaters and more–while the present-day ‘Nakwaxda’xw Elder–also featured in clay–recalls some of her most formative memories, from the everyday moments of wonder and awe to the experiences that inspired both fear and growth.

Iniskim-Return of the Buffalo
More than 50 artists come together in the Canadian Rockies to choreograph a piece of performance art celebrating the historic return of buffalo to their ancestral lands. The artists–many are puppeteers–learn cultural stories of the Plains Indians as they build, compose, and choreograph a show fit to the landscape it’s about, invoking celebration, spirituality, and ceremony. INISKIM - RETURN OF THE BUFFALO expertly uses the camera to follow the light across the breathtaking landscape–through sunset, moonrise and the show’s lantern puppets–-illuminating a world where everything is animate.
